Frequently Asked Questions
How does this tool detect technologies?
We analyze HTTP response headers (Server, X-Powered-By, CDN headers), HTML source code (script tags, meta tags, CSS classes, inline code patterns), and known signatures of popular technologies. This non-invasive approach requires only a single page load.
Is this the same as Wappalyzer or BuiltWith?
Similar concept, but Foglift's technology checker is completely free with no limitations, runs server-side (no browser extension needed), and is part of a broader SEO + GEO analysis platform. We detect 60+ technologies across 15+ categories.
Can this tool detect all technologies a site uses?
No tool can detect 100% of technologies. Some technologies leave no detectable signatures in HTTP headers or HTML. Server-side languages, internal tools, and properly obfuscated code may not be detectable. Our confidence levels (high/medium/low) indicate detection reliability.
Does knowing a site's tech stack help with SEO?
Indirectly, yes. Knowing that competitors use specific CMS platforms, SEO plugins, or analytics tools helps you benchmark your own setup. For example, if top-ranking sites in your niche all use WordPress with Yoast SEO, that's valuable competitive intelligence.
